How to Check Car Oil

Checking oil level on dipstick

As a Maserati owner, you want to keep your investment in fantastic condition for as long as you own your high-performance vehicle. Whether it’s a Levante or Ghibli, a Quattroporte, or an MC20, oil changes are the lifeblood of your engine. As such, you’ll want to check the engine’s oil once a month for the best results and to help keep your sports car or SUV humming like the day you bought it.

If you’re not sure how to check your car’s oil level, our vaunted service team is here to help with our guide. Afterward, you’ll know how to check your car’s oil like a pro!

How to Check the Oil Level in Your Car Quickly & Easily

First things first. Look over your car owner’s manual to see what the manufacturer recommends when checking the oil. Some vehicles don’t have a dipstick, but many gasoline engines do, making it easy to check the oil in your vehicle.

See how to check your car’s oil in a few easy steps:

  1. Park the vehicle on level ground, like your driveway or garage.
  2. Turn off the engine.
  3. Make sure the engine is cold, like first thing in the morning.
  4. Open the vehicle’s hood.
  5. Find the dipstick, which is usually yellow, orange, or red.
  6. Pull the dipstick out of the engine.
  7. Wipe any oil from the end of the dipstick with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  8. Re-insert the dipstick all the way back into its tube.
  9. Pull the dipstick out.
  10. Look at both sides of the dipstick.
  11. See where the oil level is.
  12. Look at the markings on the dipstick.
  13. Ascertain the oil level!

When the top of the oil level is in between the two marks on the dipstick, you are good to go as you zip around New Milford! Add more oil if the level is below the low mark.

However, if you see completely black oil that is opaque and dirty, regardless of how much oil you have, it could be time for an oil change in Danbury! Bring your Maserati in for service as soon as you can.

If you need to add oil yourself ahead of an oil change, follow these instructions:

  1. Purchase the grade of oil recommended in the owner’s manual.
  2. Remove the oil filler cap.
  3. Add a little oil at a time.
  4. Look at the dipstick until it indicates you’ve reached the proper level after each addition.
  5. Do not overfill your engine with too much oil.

How to Check a Car’s Oil: Why Should You Do This?

If your oil level is too low, your vehicle might overheat when driving on Trumbull roads. Overheating can lead to warped pistons and an engine that will no longer run. Checking the oil is a precautionary measure to make sure everything looks right.

How to Reset the Oil Change Light

Do you love taking care of your Maserati in your Stamford garage? Then you’ll need to reset the oil change light after putting fresh oil in the vehicle. Please reset the oil change light only after you’ve actually changed your oil. Otherwise, you could develop problems with the engine.

How to Reset the Oil Change Light in Your Car Step-by-Step:

  1. Turn all systems of your car off.
  2. Leave the engine running.
  3. Find the “reset” button or stick on the dashboard (typically found near the speedometer and fuel gauge).
  4. Hold the button down until the oil change light begins to flash (signs of resetting may differ per vehicle).
  5. Turn the ignition off.
  6. Wait a few seconds.
  7. Turn your car back on.
  8. Keep on driving like you love your Maserati’s fresh new oil!
